On our recent trip to South Africa, we took along with us over 300 swimsuits from VAST, Ray, RayRay and VroomVroom to donate to Summerhill House. esther Summerhill House is a non-profit organization in Kwa-Zulu Natal whose sole motivation and vision is to provide homes and personal transformation for orphaned and abandoned children, whose lives have been affected by the HIV/Aids pandemic. 6 After many long conversations with trustees Paula, Lisa and Jenny of Summerhill, a day-trip to Salt Rock beach was organized for 18 of their wonderful children. 10 With smiles from ear-to-ear upon arrival, the kids were more than anxious to get their feet in the water. 10 11 Popular local restaurant, Primi Plantation heard about our plans, and they generously donated delicious pizzas for everyone. 2 3 4 The weather was perfect and everyone enjoyed their day swimming in the warm Indian Ocean, playing soccer, building sand castles and eating delicious pizza and ice-cream. 8 9 12 Salt Rock's primary newspaper, The North Coast Courier popped by to see what we were up to and look… we made the paper! 17 Once we left the beach, right before hopping into the taxi, we were surprised with a beautiful and emotional song of gratitude. After hearing Summerhill’s beautiful voices, Yo-Chillos frozen yogurt truck invited everyone over to receive a free slushy. What a blessing! 14 13 Esther, the “Mother” of Summerhill House, then invited us all back to Etete, where the kids currently live, to show us the sort of conditions they are exposed to. Many of these orphans live with no running water, sanitation facilities or kitchens. 15 16 Thanks to their newly acquired 3800 square meter land, Summerhill will be building 4 houses (to accommodate 6 children and house mother in each), a multi-purpose building for the community and a soccer pitch. 5 What a life-changing day! Although our contribution was small, we feel so honored to have had the opportunity to contribute to such an unbelievable organization. For more info on Summerhill House contact Paula at IMG_1557
